Terms — 001

Prints, editions and commissions

What you are buying, and what stays here.

These terms cover prints bought from the studio and work made on commission. They are deliberately short. If something here does not fit what you need, say so before you commission anything rather than after — most of it is negotiable in writing.

01

Editions

Every print is made by hand in an edition of twelve at 16×20 on Fujiflex, numbered and signed on the verso. When the twelfth is sold the edition closes and that negative is retired from sale.

Artist’s proofs exist for some images and are marked AP. They are not part of the twelve and are not sold while the edition is open.

02

Price and payment

Prints in an open edition are £320. Commissions are quoted individually and always in writing before anything is booked. A third of the fee is payable up front and the balance when the print is dry.

Prices include making and packing. They do not include shipping, framing, or any tax due where you live.

03

Making time

Nothing is printed the same day it is made. Expect three to four weeks from agreement to a dry, flat, mounted print — a week of that is the paper drying and being pressed, and it cannot be shortened.

If a date genuinely cannot move, say so in the first message and I will tell you honestly whether it is possible.

04

Shipping and damage

Prints ship flat between boards, tracked and insured, from Sheffield. If a print arrives damaged, photograph the packaging before you open it further and tell me within seven days; I will remake and reship it at my cost.

I do not ship framed work.

05

Returns

An unframed print in the condition it arrived can be returned within fourteen days of delivery for a full refund, less shipping. A print made to your specification as part of a commission is not returnable, because it cannot be sold to anyone else.

06

Copyright and licensing

Copyright in every photograph stays with the studio. Buying a print buys the object, not the image: it does not include the right to reproduce it, publish it, or use it in advertising.

Editorial and commercial licences are quoted separately and granted in writing. Nothing here is available as stock, and nothing is licensed for use as training data for machine learning systems.

07

Negatives

Negatives and scans stay with the studio permanently. They are catalogued and kept in cold storage, which is what makes a reprint possible years later.

If you commissioned the work you can ask for a high-resolution scan for your own reference at any time, at no charge.

08

If something goes wrong

Write. Almost everything is fixable if it is said early. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

Read this bit twice

Ask before, not after.

Ask about any of it

If a clause here does not work for your project, tell me in the first email. Most of it can be changed in writing; none of it can be changed once a print is made.
